In 1997 we launched our first town website - YeovilTown.com. This website was unique because it provided an interactive 3D model of Yeovil, allowing visitors to experience the sights and sounds of the town from their PC. The website was so highly regarded that Third Dimension were given an e-commerce award by Intel.

Following the success of the Yeovil website, Third Dimension were asked to develop a similar website for Bridgwater and have since developed websites for Sherborne and Milborne Port, both of which were completed in 2004. All of these sites have been developed with the active co-operation of community organisations such as the Town Council, Town Centre Partnerships and Area Partnerships. The Sherborne site, in particular, has become the town’s main digital forum for business advertising, event notification and local news.
Our concept for Town websites is to provide a one stop directory for all the businesses and services within the Town while providing an opportunity for organisations to post announcements on the website. The websites are funded by a small annual subscription by organisations who wish to have a prominent entry including their email address, website links and the ability to modify their entry and post announcements. All other businesses are given a free one line entry consisting of name, address and telephone number.

The expansion of our Virtual Towns creates many opportunities for partnership. A key requirement for the success of a Town website is local networking and knowledge, and we are looking for local entrepreneurs who would be keen to represent us in their particular towns or areas. We are also interested in hearing from businesses who would like to join our existing virtual towns.
